We citizens face a serious problem when the media lies to us about the most important issues of the day.
It happened again in the July 4th Times Colonist in two stories; one about medical supplies for B.C.’s poorest people, and the other about union wages. In both stories, the government’s ‘no money’ position was bolstered by comments about the deficit and the need for austerity ‘in tough times’.
In the union story, the TC reported the government line: ‘We will not add to the deficit or raise taxes to provide unaffordable wage increases.’ This is the message from all of the corporate media … ‘we have a big deficit’ so there is no more money for health care, public education, wages, or the poorest. And lots of people believe this story, because it’s all we are allowed to hear.
But this deficit story is a lie. The truth is THE DEFICIT WAS CAUSED BY TAX CUTS FOR THE RICHEST PEOPLE AND BIGGEST BUSINESSES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.
Tax Cuts caused the deficit; if there were no tax cuts, there would be no deficit, and in fact the province would have a multi-billion dollar surplus with lots of money for necessary programs. This is the truth that is never mentioned; the truth that the media refuses to tell the citizens of BC.
In my opinion, if they are not telling us the truth, then they are lying to us. For how much longer are we going to put up with this corrupt nonsense while the corporations destroy our society, our economy, and our planet.
The media are lying to us about this, and in fact they lie to us all the time about all of the important issues. We citizens have got to come to terms with this problem, and we have got to build ourselves a media that is working for us.
For our own protection, we have got to fight back, and one way is to start to build a better democracy and a free press in Canada.

If a News Paper or any media is found to be misleading its readers it has to be called out. It has to make reparation so that the public get real relevant news. Lying is not illegal even for a News Media, a recent ruling in Canada. So we can’t expect too much from our Government to correct the problem, seems they might even like it this way. So I say we contact all those businesses that advertise in miss information media and let them know that we are boycotting them. Truth Matters!
